FAROFA NATION: Tee's for a Cause

Farofa Nation is a clothing company that blossomed out of the minds of Serge Castagna and his wife Ana. After visiting his wife in her home town of Rio de Janerio and witnessing poverty in ways he had never seen before, the couple decided to uplift their community via creative designs in apparel. Shortly thereafter, man and wife partnered with TaskBrasil, whose main objective is educating "street kids" on becoming citizens of the world through "self reliance and responsibility." Farofa Nation donates 10% of all their clothing sales to TaskBrasil. I wish them well in their pursuit to creating a better place in Rio.

Check out some designs...

LET'S GO THE MOON!

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A "significant amount" of frozen water has been found on the moon, the US space agency said Friday heralding a giant leap forward in space exploration and boosting hopes of a permanent lunar base.

Preliminary data from a dramatic experiment on the moon "indicates the mission successfully uncovered water in a permanently shadowed lunar crater," NASA said in a statement.

Cratebox Classic: Staind

Staind is one my favorite rock bands. For the longest, I didn't even know that they were from Springfield, MA, yes the same Springfield, MA where the NBA Hall of Fame is located, which is just up the road from my hometown of Harvard, MA. However, that fact only made me like them more, because not that many artists, at least that I know, come from MA. It is not a state that's represented well on the Musical Map, especially in Hip Hop. But anyways, check out some of their videos...

Creative Culture: Art at it's Finest

Here are some pictures I took today of a mural located right outside of the Howard Plaza Towers. This mural is the result of a dynamic group of diverse artists who came together to share a piece of their minds, hearts, and souls with the Howard students and surrounding community. They all combined their unique styles and sense of creativity to design this piece of art in its rawest form.

What you think?

Blu in Bogota (Colombia Street Art)

Celebrated street artist, Blu, has added another interesting piece of work to his artistic resume'. These pieces, with socially conscious themes coupled with the drug/death references do a great job in bringing the images to life. "On Display" in the streets of Bogota, Colombia and they were pout in place for, "Memoria Canalla".. I'm thinking we need to start doing these pieces around D.C. with our stamps somehow attached; nevertheless, this is dope...

FORBE'S: World's Most Powerful People List of 2009

I'll give you the top 3...

1. Barack Obama: President of the United States
2. Hu Jintao: President of the People's Republic of China
3. Vladimir Putin: Prime Minister of Russia

"I love power. But it is as an artist that I love it. I love it as a musician loves his violin, to draw out its sounds and chords and harmonies." — Napoleon Bonaparte

Power has been called many things. The ultimate aphrodisiac. An absolute corrupter. A mistress. A violin. But its true nature remains elusive. After all, a head of state wields a very different sort of power than a religious figure. Can one really compare the influence of a journalist to that of a terrorist? And is power unexercised power at all?

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony "This Is Hip Hop"

This is an interesting project where filmmaker, Court Dunn, will be creatively exposing the definition of Hip-Hop through the perspectives of many different people. I think this is dope, and I'm looking forward to  whatever Dunn has next..

Justin Bua Exhibit: Liss Gallery

"Fascinated by the raw, visceral street life of New York City, Bua has designed and illustrated work with everything from skateboards and CD covers to advertising campaigns. Bua’s work captures the underground urban world from music, dance, politics, history, emotion, and cultural importance. Bua documents both the icons of his time and society’s marginalized, each, with equal reverence. His work portrays dignity and strength, commenting not only on ghetto economies and the plight of those living in the projects, but the will, the creativity, and the rich culture that has been born from the inner-city, blurring the differences between heroes and underdogs, wealth and poverty. Impeccable draftsmanship, harmonized palettes, unusual perspectives, and skillfully developed compositions place Bua in the narrow class of artists who sustain the legacy of the masters." Peace Magazine

If you are in Yorkville, Illinois definitely check out the Liss Gallery for a meet and greet with the man himself, as well as an exclusive exhibit of his masterpieces... Live the Legacy
